This week we made leaf castings. I gathered assorted leaves from the yard and then we used plaster of paris, modge podge and canvas to make them. The kids painted them at the end. Here were our supplies:
The moms mixed up the plaster of paris in the plastic cups and then poured about a 1/2" think layer of it onto the pre-cut canvas squares. Working quickly because you only have about 7 minutes to press your leaf into the plaster - we had the kids position their leaves and then press them in vein side down onto the plaster. We then put them outside to dry for about 20-30 minutes. We brought them in, removed the leaf completely, painted them with modge podge to seal them and then let that dry for 10 minutes. Lastly, we let the kids mix colors to make a "fall" colored leaf and paint them in.
